Why Pivotal CRM 5.9 does not work with IE7?

Posted under News & Pivotal CRM 5 Platform

The adjustment which would enable a proper cooperation of Pivotal CRM system v. 5.9 with Internet Explorer 7 is in retard. That is why, in its electronic bulletin, CDC has informed about reasons that caused this state of affairs. It turned out that in a new version of browser new rules of interpretation of DOM objects have been implemented, which prevent Pivotal CRM application from proper functioning.

Below you can find content of a statement dealing with a Pivotal CRM and IE 7 compatibility

Pivotal and IE7 Compatibility

CDC Software is continuing to work closely with Microsoft to resolve compatibility issues between Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and Pivotal Rich Client. Although CDC Software has already released a hot fix that addressed compatibility issues with Pivotal Rich Client 5.7, recent investigations have revealed new issues.

This email is intended to provide you with an update on the progress being made toward resolving the outstanding compatibility issues.

IE7 DOM Changes

With the release of Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft introduced fundamental changes to the way in which the IE platform works. Applications like Pivotal Rich Client that host or rely on the IE platform have been negatively affected by these changes.

CDC Software QA has been diligently working at resolving compatibility issues arising from the IE platform changes. However, since resolving some initial compatibility issues, we have discovered a change in the IE7 DOM event model. Specifically, there has been a change in the order of DOM events being fired on text fields when comparing IE6 versus IE7:

  • With IE6, after editing a text field and tabbing away from it the DOM events fire properly: OnChange followed by OnAfterUpdate.
  • With IE7, the DOM events fire in reverse order: OnAfterUpdate followed by OnChange.

The impact of this change is that Client Scripts written to hook in to the OnAfterUpdate event do not have access to the data in the text field. This can result in client-side business logic executing incorrectly.

Next Steps

Following Pivotal’s escalation, MSFT has acknowledged the DOM issue, recognized it as a problem, and understands that this issue is a major impediment to our customers’ ability to upgrade to Microsoft Vista. Microsoft is investigating the creation of a hot fix initially targeted for Pivotal customers with a generally available version.

Until Microsoft issues the hot fix, CDC Software recommends that customers not install IE7 or Microsoft Vista (since Vista requires IE7). Further, it is recommended that customers who have installed IE7 should roll back to IE6. For more information on uninstalling IE7, please refer to Microsoft’s Uninstalling IE7 FAQ.
