IE 7 compatibility

Posted under News & Pivotal CRM 5 Platform

CDC software has just informed about the development of work at making Pivotal CRM 5.9 platform compatible with Internet Explorer 7 web browser. Unfortunately, the compatibility is not assured yet.

Below you can find a text of the statement:

This product bulletin is an update to the maintenance releases designed to deliver compatibility between Pivotal CRM and the following products:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (IE7)
  • Microsoft Windows Vista (Business Edition, Ultimate Edition and Enterprise Edition)
  • Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Outlook, and web components)
  • Microsoft Exchange 2007
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP2 - provides compatibility with Microsoft Vista
  • Crystal Reports XI (CRXI r2 SP2) - Business Objects has elected not to provide CRX compatibility with Microsoft Vista

CDC Software was initially targeting the Q2 timeframe for general availability. However, due to the complexity of adapting Pivotal CRM to a number of fundamental application and platform changes introduced by Microsoft the releases have been delayed.

A Change in Approach

Like many Enterprise software vendors, CDC Software is encountering a number of issues creating compatibility with the latest release of Microsoft’s flagship products.

As reported in a June 2007 Pivotal CRM Product Bulletin, CDC Software continues to work closely with Microsoft to resolve compatibility issues between IE7 and Pivotal Rich Client introduced by Microsoft’s move to conform more closely to World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards.

In order to speed delivery, CDC Software will deliver the compatibility releases in two separate vehicles:

  • A maintenance release covering IE7, Vista, Exchange 2007, SQL Server 2005 SP2 and CRXI compatibility targeted for delivery in early Q407
  • A maintenance release covering Office 2007 compatibility to be created following the completion of the above-listed release.

Sedna News #6

Posted under News & Pivotal CRM 6 - Sedna

The project Pivotal CRM Sedna has reached next milestone - Drop 4. Due to that, the webcasts have just started. Below, you can find brand new info about a new generation of the platform.

A date of releasing of Sedna has change - nowadays reaching a state of “General Availability” is scheduled for the turn of February 2008. In the October 2007, the beta program for invited customers and partners is going to start. Lots of things can be told already about a new interface, that has been presented at the webcast. A new proposal seems to be more ergonomic and user friendly. According to announcements, interface focuses on leading a business process, independently from a data structure and business objects.

There has been also presented an integration of Pivotal system with MS Outlook. All contacts from Pivotal system can be projected from the level of Outlook’s address book. Similar is the functioning of calendar, which replaces the one known from Pivotal CRM. The forms themselves look interesting - currently they resemble those known from Windows Access procedure and they are shown in a browser. It makes customization GUI much more easier then in Active Access procedure.
During the webcast there has been also presented a way of system’s customization. A main customization will still take place in a Toolkit of Windows Access procedure. A lot of new objects which enable using new functions of the platform have been added.

A main change is related to form’s adaptation - in Sedna it will be held in Visual Studio. Thanks to that we will gain an influence on lots of
form’s properties, which wasn’t possible before. A preparation of different language versions will become much more easier, because it will be basing at the properties and not on hitherto LD Strings.

I have to say that the presentation of Drop 4’s results makes me optimistic and whet my appetite. New generation of Pivotal CRM promises to be a revelation!
